Fabrication Engineer

About the Role

Are you excited about digital design, robotic fabrication, and turning complex shapes into strong, high-performance structures?

At MX3D B.V., we are changing the way large metal structures are designed and built using advanced robotic 3D printing technology.

As a Fabrication Engineer, you’ll bridge creative computational design with real-world production. You’ll work at the intersection of Rhino-based modeling, robotic toolpath development, and hands-on fabrication, helping transform ambitious concepts into certified metal structures.

What You’ll Do

As a Fabrication Engineer at MX3D, you’ll support the full journey from digital model to printed metal structure.

  • Translate architectural and engineering concepts into production-ready 3D models using Rhino
  • Develop and optimize geometries for robotic metal 3D printing
  • Prepare and refine digital files for WAAM production workflows
  • Print preparation in the workshop, cutting the parts off the build plate, packing & shipping
  • Support robotic toolpath generation in collaboration with the WAAM engineering team
  • Assist in print simulations, slicing strategies, and geometric optimization
  • Monitoring print and production
  • Ensure dimensional accuracy and alignment with applicable standards
  • Document workflows and contribute to continuous process improvement
  • Share computational and fabrication insights with R&D to enhance MX3D’s technology stack

What You Bring

You combine strong computational skills with a hands-on fabrication mindset. You’re comfortable moving between digital environments and the production floor.

  • Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in computational design, digital fabrication, or a similar role
  • Strong proficiency in Rhino (Grasshopper is a strong plus)
  • Experience preparing files for 3D printing or robotic fabrication
  • Understanding of geometry optimization and manufacturability
  • Affinity with advanced manufacturing and robotic systems
  • Detail-oriented, structured, and solution-driven mindset
  • Strong communication skills and team spirit
  • EU citizenship or a valid Dutch work permit

Nice to Have

  • Experience with WAAM, DED, or large-scale additive manufacturing
  • Familiarity with robotic programming or CAM software
  • Experience working in architectural fabrication or structural design
  • Workshop/Manufacturing experience is a plus

What We Offer

At MX3D, you’ll find more than a job; you’ll join a pioneering team shaping the future of large-scale metal 3D printing.

  • Market-competitive salary aligned with your experience
  • 8% holiday allowance
  • 40 total holidays per year (27 vacation days + 13 ADV days)
  • Comprehensive PME pension scheme
  • Annual company getaway
  • “Soup Fridays” and an informal, collaborative culture
  • Retail discounts, travel perks, and insurance benefits
  • Full-time role with strong growth and training opportunities
  • A vibrant, international team with a true can-do mentality
  • Regular Friday drinks and team outings
