MATERIALS

WAAM

Robotic WAAM can be used for a broad range of metal alloys.

Based on extensive printing at the MX3D, we print objects with a solid performance in various standard metal alloys using standard available welding wires.

Every material supplied as a wire for arc welding is also compatible with WAAM. This gives WAAM access to one of the broadest range of metal materials AM on the market.

STANDARDISATION

GUIDELINES & QUALIFICATION

MX3D follows the recent guidance notes for the certification of products proceeded by Lloyd’s Register, The Welding Institute, DNV GL, and Bureau Veritas Marine & offshore as part of the engineering package.

MX3D produces parts with mechanical properties comparable to cast or wrought material. By adopting the international standards, MX3D manages the quality of parts for various industries and applications.

MX3D has broad experience with various metal alloys, including the following (non-exhaustive)

ALUMINIUM

5356: EN ISO 18273: S Al 5356 (AlMg5Cr(A))
5183: EN ISO 18273: S Al 5183 (AlMg4,5Mn0,7(A))
4018: EN ISO 18273: S AI 4018 (AISi7Mg)
4046: EN ISO 18273: S AI 4046 (AISi10Mg)

OTHER MATERIALS

Most materials supplied as a wire for arc welding are also compatible with WAAM. Next to aluminium, steels and bronze alloys, also copper-based alloys, invar, Inconel and titanium are suitable for WAAM if the system’s atmosphere allows for it.

This gives WAAM access to one of the broadest range of materials for metal AM on the market. Moreover, compared to metal powders, weldable wires are more affordable, accessible and available worldwide in general.
