ABOUT MX3D

MX3D is the company that revealed the potential of robotic wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) to the industry. We have made 3D metal printing more flexible, faster and cheaper.

By launching the first dedicated robotic WAAM software in 2019, we enabled companies, engineers and designers to print end-to-end large-scale 3D metal objects in-house.

Now, MX3D is ready to transform industries further by introducing its turnkey M1 Metal AM System.

VISION, MISSION & SUSTAINABILITY

Robots will shape our future. By applying artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, robots will be able to perform their tasks better every time.

We envision MX3D Robots building lightweight parts and structures in full autonomy all over the planet, and perhaps even beyond!

It is our mission to set up as many businesses as possible with our Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology, so the benefits of this tech will have the highest possible impact.

OUR TECHNIQUE

MX3D has developed MetalXL, the first dedicated Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) workflow to enable end-to-end, large-scale 3D metal printing.

Large-scale 3D metal printing is strongly desired by industrial companies, engineers, designers and researchers. Moreover, there is no other dedicated tool available for WAAM technology that integrate design to print in one go. MX3D enables large-scale 3D metal printing by joining together our proprietary technology, a standard industrial robot and a power source, both with our MetalXL platform and our turnkey M1 Metal AM System.

Modern Industrial Robot

OUR USP’s

The MX3D product philosophy ensures that the 3D metal printing technique becomes accessible to a whole new range of industries. The aim is to build a robust system that is suitable for on-site construction and heavy-duty industrial use outside of a controlled environment.

MX3D’s unique selling points:

Freedom of form: by using industrial robots with (at least) 6-axis of freedom we can print far more complex shapes than with traditional 3-axis gantry systems.

Outside the Box: because we control this many axes of freedom, we can print parts that are bigger than the reach of the robot by simply moving the robot during the print. We call this Outside the Box printing.

Material usage and waste reduction: The increased freedom of form results in the possibility of printing shapes that are optimized for weight and strength. This way a significant reduction in material use can be achieved.

Cost reduction: The cost for a WAAM printing cell is around 1/5th of an SLM- powder-bed printer. Add to that the cost of the base material is around 10 times lower (€5,- per kg for stainless steel wire against €50,- for stainless steel powder for SLM) and it becomes clear that for large-scale printed metal objects, WAAM will often be the preferred choice.

Speed: with a very short CAD-to-Print-time (less than an hour in most cases) and a deposit rate of over 2 kilograms per hour, our technique can substantially increase production time and dramatically reduce lead time.
