Stainless Steel Pressure Vessel

Overview

Small pressure vessels are critical components utilized across multiple industries to securely store fluids or gasses for short periods under varying and extreme pressures and temperatures. As an internal showcase of our manufacturing capabilities, MX3D produced this custom ER316L stainless steel pressure vessel. The project highlights how Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) can be leveraged to rapidly produce robust, heavy-duty industrial components in a matter of days rather than months.

The Power of WAAM Flexibility

Traditional pressure vessel manufacturing often involves multiple manufacturing steps and complex assembly, restrictive casting processes, or heavy material waste. By utilizing WAAM’s unique manufacturing flexibility, vessels can be produced with highly customized special features integrated directly into the print.

Our robotic 3D metal printing software allows us to seamlessly incorporate complex geometry, such as stub pipes and specialized connections, tailored precisely to the requirements of any installation. This ensures that our pressure vessels can accommodate the most demanding and specific customer needs without the need for extensive post-fabrication welding or assembly.

Scalability and Material Versatility

While this specific showcase piece features a highly durable ER316L stainless steel build, MX3D’s technology is designed for ultimate material versatility. We have extensive experience fabricating small, medium, and large vessels designed to accommodate a wide range of volumes. Depending on the specific environmental and pressure requirements of the application, our robotic setups can actively print these vessels in a variety of high-performance metals, including aluminum, standard stainless steel, duplex, and super duplex.
