WAAM Engineer (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing)

About the Role

Are you passionate about advanced manufacturing and eager to push the boundaries of robotic metal 3D printing? At MX3D, we are redefining how large-scale metal structures are designed and produced. As a WAAM Engineer, you’ll combine hands-on printing with technical depth, translating standards into real-world production while bringing complex geometries to life.

Join our dynamic, international team at the forefront of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing and help build the next generation of metal fabrication.

What You’ll Do

As a WAAM Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in turning ambitious designs into certified, high-performance metal structures.

  • Define welding and deposition parameters based on customer requirements and applicable standards
  • Assess incoming customer requests for qualification requirements and printability
  • Generate and optimize robotic toolpaths using our proprietary MetalXL software
  • Operate, monitor, and continuously improve live WAAM printing processes
  • Document and report on every phase of the production lifecycle
  • Coordinate with external material testing partners to validate mechanical properties
  • Translate ISO, ASME, API, and other standards into practical WAAM workflows
  • Share real-world insights with our R&D team to enhance our technology

What You Bring

You combine technical expertise with a pragmatic, hands-on mindset. You’re just as comfortable working on the shop floor as you are reviewing standards and documentation.

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Essential: Experience with robotic 3D printing (preferably welding-based systems)
  • Welding experience required; IWE/IWT certification (or equivalent) is a strong plus
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Willingness to operate WAAM equipment and optimize live prints
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing standards and quality systems
  • Practical, solution-oriented mindset
  • Excellent communication skills and strong team spirit
  • EU citizenship or a valid Dutch work permit

Nice to Have

  • Experience with CAD, Rhinoceros, and/or Grasshopper
  • WAAM or DED experience (big plus)
  • Familiarity with CAM programming and robotic systems
  • Experience working with ISO/ASME standards in welding or additive manufacturing
  • Interest in research, validation, and certification processes

What We Offer

At MX3D, you’ll find more than a job – you’ll join a pioneering team shaping the future of manufacturing.

  • Market-competitive salary aligned with your experience
  • 8% holiday allowance
  • 40 total holidays per year (27 vacation days + 13 ADV days)
