ZDMP

Zero Defects Manufacturing Platform (ZDMP) offers an open Industry 4.0 environment where a new generation of developed zero-defect service applications will be available in a marketplace contributing to creating an ecosystem where ZDMP stakeholders would be able to interact with each other.

MX3D is developing for two projects in ZDMP, both focused on solving consistency problems in robotic additive manufacturing

UCRAM

For the first ZDMP open subcall, MX3D is developing a solution to address essential consistency problems in robotic AM. Universal Calibration Tool for Robotic Additive Manufacturing (UCRAM) will be a tool that monitors the layer build-up, either to measure and calibrate the material build-up beforehand during a calibration procedure or monitoring it layer-by-layer as the print progresses. The tool will create a digital twin of the printed part, by scanning each layer, building up a 3D image that can be used for review or to overlay with other available data sets. A simple, fast, and low-cost tool for defect detection and quality control in any type of robotic AM to achieve zero-defect additive manufacturing.

SMARTGen

For ZDMP open subcall 2, MX3D is advancing the solution to address consistency problems in robotic additive manufacturing. Using the scanning results of the UCRAM system, Smart Manufacturing by Adaptive Robotic Toolpath GENeration (SMARTGen) will adaptively control robotic AM processes. This is done by generating an optimal toolpath layer by layer correcting for layer height variations in previous layers, and using various components available on the ZDMP platform. A brand agnostic robotic control interface will be developed, where MX3D’s MetalXL workflow will generate the toolpaths adaptively in a layer by layer manner. As a final result, SMARTGen will be offered on the ZDMP marketplace.

These projects have received cascading funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 825631.
